Fossil fuel heating ban for new builds from 2025

To come a year after planning policy change

A ban on the installation of fossil fuel heating systems in new homes will take effect from the beginning of January 2025.

It's the latest step towards government's net zero aspiration.

A year before the ban comes in building control authorities will reject new applications for new buildings and extensions containing fossil fuel systems.

Naomi Atkins is the policy manager with the climate change transformation team and explains what happens if you've submitted an application before 1 January next year but haven't started work:
