82-year-old failed to see motorcyclist when joining traffic
A pensioner from Glen Vine has been banned from driving for 12 months after crashing into a biker and causing him significant brain damage.
Peter Nicholas Poole-Wilson, of Ballamurphie Park, was involved in an incident on the A1 Peel Road on 27 August last year.
The 82-year-old failed to see the motorcyclist when exiting the car park of Marown Church; his advocate described it as 'a momentary lapse of judgement'.
The man he hit had to be transferred to a hospital in the UK for treatment 13 days later.
Poole-Wilson was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse after admitting causing serious bodily harm by driving without due care or consideration.
Fining him £1,700, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £50, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: "You're clearly a man of impeccable character that's had a momentary lapse, that's had a devastating impact on another."
Poole-Wilson will also have to take and pass an extended driving test before returning to the road.
