Appeal from charity after avian flu warning
Dozens of dead sea birds have reportedly washed up along the shore in Port Erin and Peel in the last couple of days, with signs pointing to Avian Flu.
Manx Wild Bird Aid says 40 birds were found dead or dying Port Erin along with a further 27 on Fenella Beach.
It was the second such occasion last week.
Officers from the environment department have collected the bodies for tests to determine the cause.
The charity asks that people avoid bringing sick or injured seabirds to its bases, saying it could jeopardize every bird in its care.
The advice from DEFA is that any dead birds or those suspected as suffering from avian influenza should not be touched although their location can be reported to the Animal Health Team at agriculture@gov.im or by telephoning 01624 685844.'
