Court heard passenger suffered broken leg
The Department of Infrastructure has admitted health and safety failings over its maintenance of the Manx Electric Railway.
At Douglas Courthouse today guilty pleas were entered, by the advocate representing the DOI, to two counts of failing to discharge duty between 12 April 2017 and 17 July 2021.
On the latter date an MER tram derailed near Lewaigue.
The court heard the offences relate to adequate maintenance procedures for the ‘wheels and tyres’ with the prosecutor confirming a passenger had suffered a broken leg in an incident on a tram.
Magistrates accepted jurisdiction of the case and the Department of Infrastructure will be sentenced on 28 September; the maximum sentence which can be imposed is a fine of £20,000.
