DESC owes pool staff an apology, says Southern MHK

Follows department's decision to keep the Southern Swimming Pool open

A southern MHK is calling for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture to apologise.

Tim Glover, who represents Arbory, Castletown and Malew, has responded to the department's decision to keep the Southern Swimming Pool open.

The DESC had planned to ask Tynwald to agree to close the facility by the end of March saying it didn't have the money to support it.

However last night (Friday) it backtracked on its decision saying it will continue to provide £434k to help run it; that follows a 'workable' proposal put forward by the Southern Swimming Pool Board and MHKs and local authorities in the south.

Mr Glover told Manx Radio he believes apologies are owed:

Education, Sport and Culture Minister Julie Edge will join Manx Radio live on our Manx Radio Breakfast programme on Monday (22 January) to discuss the latest position.
