DEFA update after Storm Debi sweeps through the Island

Fifty trees brought down onto roads and some roads still closed

Fifty trees were brought down onto roads as Storm Debi swept across the Isle of Man.

The Department of Infrastructure says its teams attended to 47 call outs while Manx Utilities cleared another three in and around overhead lines.

High winds also caused damage to some buildings on the Island.

Part of the lane at the side of Lancaster Road in Douglas will be closed and barriered for up to a week due to the danger of falling masonry. It will only open once it's made safe by the owner.

Church Road in Port Erin is closed also to traffic this morning due to falling slates from buildings. Pedestrians are advised to avoid walking in this area.

The department says it also dealt with flooding in Bride and Andreas and in some instances jetters and sweepers had to be used to clear emerging issues.
