Community service for teen who punched doorman in face

19-year-old also ordered to work with probation service

A teenager from Laxey has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service after punching a doorman in the face.

Thomas Richard Fayle, of Gretch Noa, assaulted the security staff member on Loch Promenade in Douglas.

Police were called to Bordellos at 1.45am on 2 July – door staff had restrained the 19-year-old on the floor after he’d been ‘kicking off’.

Fayle was arrested and told officers he’d punched the man because he wanted to ‘knock him out’.

He admitted common assault during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

A probation officer told the court the teen had been assaulted himself on the evening, by friends of his ex-partner, adding that he was also claiming the doorman had pushed him a number of times.

Describing the assault as ‘reckless’ he said Fayle had a ‘high level of regret and remorse’ and his comments made in police interview were ‘alcohol fuelled bravado’.

Fayle’s advocate said his client was ‘clearly angry at the time’ and asked for his ‘young age and immaturity’ to be taken into account.

Ordering Fayle to work with probation for 12 months High Bailiff Jayne told him: “The court looks very dimly on assaults on doormen.”

He will also have to pay compensation of £150 and prosecution costs of £125.
