Colby man avoids driving ban after driving at 68mph in 30 zone

Magistrates tell motorist this cannot happen again

A Colby man has been told he narrowly avoided a driving ban after being caught driving at 68mph in a 30 zone.

Gershon Riaan Koks pleaded guilty to speeding after being recorded travelling in excess of the speed limit on Ballafesson Road in Port Erin.

The court heard he was still learning the Island's roads at the time of the offence in April, having recently moved to the Island, had only purchased the car the day before, and believed the speed limit on the road to be 40mph instead of 30.

Magistrates warned Koks that he was close to losing his licence and that this cannot happen again, but understood that he is remorseful.

The 35-year-old was fined £500 and ordered to pay £50 costs, while his driving licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
