Beach Buddies in running for international award

Follows recent national award win

A local environmental group has been short-listed for a major worldwide environment award.

It follows a recent award win in London for beach cleaning group Beach Buddies.

They walked away with the Energy Global national award at the ceremony in the English capital last year.

Now, they're set to attend the international Energy Globe World Awards ceremony in Trondheim, Norway later this month.

Founder Bill Dale said: "To be short-listed as one of five organisations to win the world award is the most prestigious honour Beach Buddies has ever achieved,” said founder Bill Dale. “Even if we don’t win it, we are listed amongst the top five in the world for our educational programme, which is amazing in itself.

"Whatever happens in Trondheim, this now places us well and truly on the world map. The online reach of an organisation like this is way beyond anything we could achieve on our own and gives us a platform to spread the word worldwide about what has been achieved in the Isle of Man."

Mr Dale is set to attend the awards, alongside four Beach Buddies’ volunteers who are self-funding their trips to give support to the charity.

They are to be held on 25 January 2024.
