Abuse of Manx Care staff is 'shocking and on the rise'

Instances of GP receptionists being abused at work have increased since Covid

The role of a GP receptionist is often misunderstood, as people don't realise how complex the job actually is.

That's the message from the operations manager for the Island's Primary Care Network, who says patients are unfairly taking their frustrations out on people in the job.

Manx Care says the abuse of its staff across the Isle of Man is on the rise and is forcing some to quit.

It appears to be a vicious circle - with patient dissatisfaction with services ultimately contributing to the rising staffing problems as people are forced to a breaking point.

Manx Radio spoke to Shiona McAllister and Carole Johnson, the Practice Manager at Snaefell Surgery in Anaghcoar, about the rising issue.
