66th anniversary of the UK's worst high ground aviation accident

Service of remembrance to take place in St Johns today

A service of remembrance will take place in St Johns today to honour the Manx residents who died in the Winter Hill plane crash.

Thirty-five people lost their lives in the UK's worst high ground aviation accident on the 27 February 1958.

The Silver City Airlines charter flight was carrying local motor traders and associated colleagues on a trip to a battery factory in Manchester.

Howard Callow of Douglas Rotary Club is organiser of today's service.

The short, informal, service will take place at Cooil y Ree Park in St Johns at 11am.
