55-year-old admits resisting three police officers
An Onchan man has been fined £400 after admitting resisting three police officers who were trying to arrest him after a family dispute on Boxing Day.
They had to use PAVA incapacitant spray to detain Ian Alan Johnson, of Sea Cliff Road, after being asked to respond on 26 December.
The 55-year-old, who’d been drinking, had been involved in an incident with his brother; but he began struggling and kicked out at the attending officers.
At Douglas Courthouse Johnson pleaded guilty to the offence.
His advocate told the court it was a ‘very unfortunate set of circumstances’ adding it was ‘definitely a case of the Boxing Day blues’.
“Sibling rivalries started to come out and unfortunately things got out of hand,” the advocate added: “I would ask you to treat this as a one-off blip - something that won’t be repeated in the future.”
Ordering Johnson to pay prosecution costs of £125 Magistrates told him: “Our police officers are here to protect. I hope that you never repeat this in future.”
