Changes brought in ahead of new hockey season

Rules amended for 2019/20 campaign

An Island hockey player has reflected on new rule changes which will come into effect in the forthcoming season.

Matches on the Isle of Man will no longer allow players to bear goalkeeping privileges if electing to play with 11 outfielders, whilst attackers are also set to be penalised more harshly if they encroach during a penalty corner.

However, Manx leagues will not comply with the elite league across the water in bringing in quarters to replace the traditional two halves of 35 minutes.

The following changes are set to come into force for the 2019/20 season:

- Removal of Player with Goalkeeper Privileges (PwGKP)

- Defensive Free Hits awarded within the defensive circle

- Amendment to ruling around Attacking Free Hits within the 23m

- Amendment to ruling around Attackers entering the circle early at a Penalty Corner

Sam Hassall made her name in the sport with Douglas side Harlequins and has also represented the Isle of Man at senior level.

She believes a change regarding game length isn't too far away:
