A bad day in the SLCL

It was a poor day for the Manx sides in their respective divisions the South Lancashire and Cheshire League, with all three suffering defeats.

In Division 1, Vagabonds lost at home to Wigan by a single point. Vagas led 12-9 at half-time with tries from Danny Kermode and Kevin Birchall, plus a conversion from Johnny Beckley. But in the second half, they could only add another Beckley penalty, and Wigan stole it at the end to come out 15-16 winners.

In South Lancashire and Cheshire Division 2, Ramsey got off to a poor start away to Warrington and allowed the home side to race into a 22-0 lead after just 20 minutes. Warrington added another penalty before Peter Verrall pulled a try back for the Manx side. Warrington added another penalty early in the second half, to lead 28-5, before Ramsey got a late try from Aneurin Pritchard, converted by Fintan Cummins. However, they were unable to reduce the deficit any further.

Also in South Lancashire and Cheshire Division 2, Douglas lost 26-10 away at high flying Duckenfield. Will Latta and James Creasey both scored tries for Douglas.

In the BSM Manx Cup, Southern Nomads beat Castletown 36-3 to secure a semi-final place. The Nomads' tries came from Harry Brereton (2), Alex Samuels, Andy Lean, Steve McHugh and Ian Hargreaves. Sam Peel kicked a consolation penalty for Castletown.
