Petitioner calls on gov't to improve 'fairness' for air passengers

DOI minister discusses issues and solutions

A petitioner is calling on the Department of Infrastructure to make significant improvements to the Island's airport to improve 'fairness'.

Barry Murphy wants government to urgently speak with airlines to ensure Isle of Man residents are treated in a 'decent and humane manner' when cancellations and delays occur.

The DOI minister has spoken of further upgrades to the landing system which is likely to cost in the region of £2million which would reduce the disruption caused by fog.

Chris Thomas sat down with Manx Radio's Christian Jones to discuss:

The petition can be found HERE.

In response to Mr Murphy's flight cancellation, easyJet told Manx Radio: “We can confirm that Mr Murphy’s flight from London Gatwick to Isle of Man on 8 May was unable to land due to low visibility on the runway at Isle of Man and returned to Gatwick where the flight was cancelled.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and whilst this was outside of our control we did all possible to minimise the disruption for our customers, notifying them of their options to rebook onto the next available flight including with other carriers or request a refund, as well as providing hotel accommodation and meals for those customers who required them, including for Mr Murphy and his family.

“We understand that alternative flight availability was limited on this route at this time and while we advise customers will be reimbursed for alternative forms of transport to continue their journey and we have reimbursed Mr Murphy, we are sorry for the inconvenience this will have caused.”
