New lawn bowls facility could host international events

Current hut in Onchan Park could be demolished

Plans have been submitted to demolish a clubhouse in Onchan Park in a bid to create a bigger one which could host international bowls events.

Onchan Commissioners wants to remove the current facility and replace it with a log cabin which would be used by the Flat Bowling Green Club.

Onchan District Commissioners lease the facility to Lawn Bowls IOM which provides the Island’s only ‘flat’ green playing facility.

The existing timber club house, which was constructed in 2007, is approaching a condition where it is no longer economically viable to maintain and repair.

The club intends to apply for a grant via the Manx Lottery Trust to fund the purchase and construction of a new timber club house with the support of the commissioners as landlord.

The new structure will allow Lawn Bowls IOM to expand its membership which would also incorporate disability access and allow international events.

The application (23/00015/B) is currently being considered.
