Chinese partnership struck in roaming deal
An arm of the world's forth largest mobile service provider has signed a contact with our incumbent telecoms company.
It's been announced that Manx Telecom will work with China Unicom Global Limited - a subsidiary of the China Unicom Group, which has 350 million mobile subscribers.
The company is launching a UK mobile and roaming product - CUniq and MT will provide connectivity through Telefonica to facilitate it.
CUniq is a mobile virtual network operator service - it enables global roaming for Chinese outbound travellers, diaspora communities living in the UK, and enterprise customers with one SIM card local to the UK, China and Hong Kong.
It's to serve a sharp increase in Chinese visitors - in 2015, around 270,000 residents made the journey - a 45% increase on the previous year.
The SIM card will operate across 45 countries and regions.
