easyJet on a high as Islanders grounded

Airline numbers soar as delays continue

Their services may be marred by delays and cancellations here, but at base easyJet's fortunes are soaring.

The budget airline has increased its passenger numbers again, by 6.8% in August compared to the same month the previous year.

It's flown over 72 million separate passengers worldwide this year.

But that belies the situation here in the Isle of Man, where Ronaldsway saw a 4.5% drop in overall passenger numbers last month.

Recently released figures gathered by consumer rights group TravelWatch, found just 1 in 5 easyJet flights to Gatwick departed on time, with the average delay being 45 minutes.

Passengers who experience long delays or cancellations, or miss connecting flights due to service disruptions, are often entitled to compensation under EU regulations.
