Caution figures proportionate say police

Efforts made not to 'needlessly' criminalize

The Isle of Man Constabulary says the number of cautions issued in the last four years were proportionate, and reflective of policing policy.

Figures released via a Freedom of Information request show 3116 formal notices were given out since 2014, with 924 occasions where warnings were handed out for driving recklessly.

The force's media spokesperson Inspector Gavin Callow says the statistics aren't abnormally high, and that cautions are sometimes a better option than sending someone to court for a minor, or first time, offence.
