Time for diverse LegCo says lone female MLC

There's to be a bid to increase diversity in the Island's upper parliament next year.

Tynwald will be seeking new members to join the Legislative Council in 2018.

One of a number of reforms, passed in the court on Tuesday following the Lisvane Report, focuses on the lack of representation among unelected MLCs.

The Council currently has just one permanent female member, recently-appointed solicitor Jane Poole-Wilson.

That statistic puts the Isle of Man far behind neighbouring jurisdictions in terms of equality.

She told Tynwald that ought to change.
