Chief minister 'shocked' at Oxfam scandal

Quayle seeks safeguarding assurances from charities

The chief minister has expressed his shock at the behaviour of some Oxfam staff, embroiled in sex scandal in the UK.

In a statement, Howard Quayle says he is seeking assurances from charities which receive aid from the Manx government that they have adequate safeguarding arrangements.

An investigation has been launched by the Charities Commission for England and Wales into allegations some of the charity's workers used prostitutes in Haiti in 2010.The leader of the Manx government says all funding to Oxfam will be under review until the outcome of the report.

He says it's vital charities give strong moral leadership with a 'transparent culture' and insists the Isle of Man will do all it can to ensure funding goes to organisations with 'robust safeguarding procedures'.
