Urgent call to save Michael United

Football club in danger of folding

Teams across the Isle of Man have rallied to support Michael United Football Club, after it issued an urgent call for new players in a bid to stay alive.

This weekend, the club said its committee was due to hold an emergency meeting on “what to do with the club going forward,” as they had fewer than 15 players signed on for the new season, most of whom are over 35 years old.

The club says it can promise low subscription fees, guaranteed play time, clubhouse facilities and refreshments for those interested.

Other clubs including St Georges, Union Mills, Onchan and Braddan have taken to social media in support of the struggling western outfit.

It’s thought Michael United, which celebrated its centenary year last season, could be ‘on the brink of folding’ if the situation doesn't improve before the new season.
