Rea wins WSBK championship

Fourth-place finish in Jerez secures title

Jonathan Rea has been crowned Superbike World Champion.

The Castletown resident has dominated the season and wrapped up the title with a fourth-place finish in the opening race at Jerez, Spain, this morning.

It's his first World Superbike championship.

He also becomes the first Northern Irishman to win a motorcycle world championship for almost thirty years.

Joey Dunlop and Brian Reid claimed the Formula One and Two world titles respectively in 1986.
