Former US keeper named sporting director

The USL side Manx centre-back Liam Doyle plays for has added a bit of star quality to its front office staff full-time.

Former Manchester United, Everton and USA international goalkeeper Tim Howard has been appointed Memphis 901 FC's new sporting director.

Howard retired from playing in October last year at the age of 40, finishing his career with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

He says taking on the role will give him an excitement which mimics playing, adding he wants to deliver a championship for the team.

Howard has also been a minority owner of the club since September 2018.

Following his debut campaign with Memphis in 2019 - which was the club's first one as well - Liam Doyle was re-signed for another year along with eight others in the off-season.

The new USL season gets under way in March.
