Honours even in big clash

Peel lose discipline but gain point

It finished all square in the match of the day in the Canada Life Premier League.

A late penalty from Lee Gale rescued a point for Peel at home to reigning champions St George’s.

Last season’s runners-up, who ended the match with nine men after two dismissals, had fallen behind to a third minute opener from Geordies’ skipper Frank Jones.

And the home side’s plight got worse when Josh Kelly was shown a red card for a tussle with St George’s defender Sean Quaye.

After being second best, Peel improved after the break and their character was rewarded with two minutes remaining when Jack McVeigh was adjudged to have dangerously raised his foot in the box.

Andy Perry saved Gale’s spot-kick but he reacted quickly to force home the rebound.

Peel played out the last few minutes with nine men when Matthew Woods was shown a second yellow card.

Rushen staged a remarkable fightback to win a nine goal thriller at the Bowl.

St Mary’s looked to be cruising to victory as they raced into a 3-0 lead.

However, their 100 per cent record was ruthlessly ripped apart as Rushen turned on the style to score five times!

St Mary’s did pull one back but it wasn’t enough.

It looked all over as Steve Glover, Nathan Cooil and player-manager Steven Priestnal fired the hosts in front within 20 minutes.

That’s how it stayed until half-time before Rushen’s turnaround.

Aaron Hawley, Jamie Johnstone and a Furo Davies penalty levelled matters before Davies and Hawley netted again.

Cooil added his second but the Saints were beaten.

There was also excitement as Laxey won 4-3 at St John’s to continue their encouraging start to the campaign.

Michael Fernandez (two), Sean Gavin and Max Murley grabbed the goals with Rhys Oates and Louis Morris among the goals for the home side.

A goal in each half from Danny Oram and Kane Ridings ensured Corinthians edged out Marown 2-1.

Veteran Juan Killip found the net for the newly promoted battlers.

The other newly promoted side were beaten by the same scoreline.

A goal from Chris Druggan gave Ramsey victory in the northern derby at Ramsey Youth Centre.

Tom Hall had equalised an early Youth Centre own goal but Druggan had the final word.

Ayre Utd sealed their second success of the season with a comprehensive 5-0 win at Union Mills.
