Grand National disappointment for Manx businessman

Cloth Cap was favourite going into the event

Island businessman Trevor Hemmings was unsuccessful in a bid to make history at the Grand National yesterday.

His horse – Cloth Cap – was the favourite ahead of the race but failed to complete the run and was pulled up before the finish.

Second horse – Lake View Lad – was also a first fence faller at the Aintree event.

A win, which would have been Hemmings’ fourth, would have seen him become the most successful owner in history.

However it was Rachael Blackmore who was the one rewriting the history books.

She became the first ever female jockey to take Grand National victory on horse Minella Times.
