Fifth-hole sudden death play-off required for victory

Mount Murray golfer Neil Caine was crowned WA Kirkpatrick champion on Sunday after a thrilling battle with Peter Glover.

A fifth-hole sudden death play-off was required to separate the pair as they were tied after all 36 holes at Douglas Golf Club.

Both mirrored each others' scores in the first and second round, carding 69 and 71 respectively.

The play-off was contested over the first and 18th holes, but after twice matching each other with fours, Caine's par three was enough to defeat Glover on his home course.

In third place was Rob Noon (Douglas) on 141.

Lewis Howland of Castletown put together a second round score of 77 for a grand total of 148, but more importantly for him the best two-round net total of the day on 134; beating Matt Astall (Rowany) and Matthew Nicholson (Mount Murray) by two shots.

The WA Kirkpatrick trophy is seen as a build-up to the Isle of Man Golf Championships, which this year take place from 6 - 14 July.
