Bonus point win for Douglas

Saturday Rugby round-up

Douglas rounded off their final home game on North One West with a 24-10 bonus point win against struggling Rochdale. Tries from Aidan O’Shea and Niall Killey plus a Bryn Snellgrove conversion saw Douglas lead 12-0 at half time. James Duffy landed a penalty early in the second half to reduce the Douglas lead but Conor Stephens and Guy Wood hit back with tries to make the game safe and grab a try bonus point to boot. Rob Wadsworth crossed for a Rochdale consolation.

Vagabonds toil in Oswestry

Vagabonds were unable to build on their home win against Oldershaw a fortnight ago and went down 68-0 at a wet and muddy Oswestry. Vagas are now unable to finish outside the relegation zone in South Lancs/Cheshire Division 2 and look to be heading to Division 3 next season.

Ramsey beat Bedians

Ramsey clung on to beat Didsbury Old Bedians 11-7 at the Mooragh Park in Lancs/Cheshire Division 3 with all the points coming in the first half. Bedians took an early 7-0 lead but Ramsey gradually reeled them in with two Scott Kneale penalties bringing them to within a point before full back Matty Clague crossed for what was to be the match winning try.

Douglas Celts retain Shimmin Wilson Manx Plate

After fighting off some early Vikings resistance, Douglas Celts cruised to a 55-3 victory to retain the Shimmin Wilson Manx Plate. Nathan Knights and Shaun Wyllie ran in early tries for Douglas. Ryan Burke kicked a penalty for Vikings to reduce the deficit but tries from Daryn Thompson, Rob Bowen and Knights’ second saw Douglas 25-3 in front at the break. Man of the match Knights completed his hat trick and Thompson bagged his second after the interval to give Douglas an unassailable lead. Two late scores from Andrew Colley and one from Charlie Henthorn rounded off the day.

Isle of Man Schools complete successful tour

The IOM Schools team beat Victoria Linden 45-7 in Hamburg to make it three from three on their German tour. A Harri Radford hat trick was the star of the show with other tries from Harry Hewson, Kieran Kneale and Ben Haworth. Earlier in the week the team beat SC Germania List 24-0 and St Pauli Rugby 33-5.
