Blow to Peel's Railway Cup hopes

The top three all won convincingly in the Canada Life Premier League on Tjuesday night, putting more distance between themselves and the rest.

League leaders St George's thrashed Colby 8-0.

Sam Caine's hat-trick, a Furo Davies brace and strikes from Sean Quaye, Chris Bass Jr and skipper Frank Jones did the damage for the defending champions.

Second-placed Rushen United put five past Ramsey, with Jamie Johnstone (two), Josh Kelly (two) and Mike Williams the scorers.

Corinthians, who currently sit in third, hit seven without reply against Laxey: Dan Simpson (two), Sean Doyle (two), Ste Whitley (two) and Luke Murray got the goals.

The shock of the night came at Douglas Road, where Peel's Railway Cup hopes suffered a blow.

They were thrashed 5-1 by local rivals St John's, whose goals came via the in-form Paul Whitehead, who hit a hat-trick, Eric Kelly and Rhys Oates.

Lee Gale scored for the westerners.

Gary Quirk and Robbie Ward secured the points for Old Boys as they beat Braddan 2-1 to remain in contention for Railway Cup qualification.
