Athletics: Dramatic 20km race ended in victory for two-time Olympian

Wilkinson took victory in event

The Isle of Man 20km Championship Walk men's race ended in dramatic circumstances as a red card paved the way for a double Olympian to take victory.

Callum Wilkinson, who has just come back from a break after competing at the Paris Olympics, battled for the lead with UK number two Cameron Corbishley before the latter took a commanding lead.

Corbishley led with four laps remaining but was shown a third red card from the judges which meant the walker had to step into the penalty zone to receive a two-minute time sanction.

The UK's number two had no choice but to watch his counterpart stride into the lead, where Wilkinson then held on to take the win with a time of one hour 23 minutes and 55 seconds.

British women's number one Abigail Jenning took part in the event for the first time and finished first in the female category.

She walked away with the England title as she completed the event with a time of one hour 45 minutes and 29 seconds.
