Final may mean a lower turnout for festivities
A committee of Douglas Council, tasked with running the capital’s annual carnival, is worried the World Cup Final may steal the attentions of festival goers.
The match will be aired at 4pm this Sunday (15 July), right in the middle of the arranged festivities, though of course it won't now feature England.
A parade, live music, fairground rides and a craft market have all been planned for the Carnival.
The possible clash was discussed by the Regeneration and Community Committee at its June meeting.
Members were concerned one of the biggest matches in world football may ‘impact the involvement of volunteers, entrants and spectators’.
The committee suggested completing the parade before 4pm, and that a large TV screen could be positioned at the Villa Marina to broadcast the festivities, before then playing the World Cup Final.
