Wallaby protection not our priority says DoI

Road signs not considered for wildlife

Government has no intention of installing road signs to warn motorists of wallabies, because they 'pose minimal risk to drivers'.

Following suggestions from wildlife experts, the Department of Infrastructure says putting in place signage to protect the marsupial is 'not a priority'.

Police figures released earlier in the year show there has been nine counts of the animal involved in road-related incidents since 2014.

There is thought to be over a hundred wallabies in the wild, with numbers expected to increase.
