VMCC not optimistic about future of Festival

Event needs 'complete refresh' says chairman

The chair of the Isle of Man Vintage Motorcyle Club says he's "realistic - not optimistic" about the future of the Festival of Jurby.

Rupert Murden was speaking following the news the committee had decided to suspend the ten-year-old event, as it was becoming too much for them.

Speaking live on Mandate, Mr Murden cited increasing regulations surrounding health and safety issues, plus insurance concerns, and said the numbers of both festival goers and participants had dropped recently, with figures down 15% since 2017.

Whilst the committee is meeting with officials from the Department of Enterprise next month, he said the event needed a complete refresh and he believes government was able to provide the sort of help needed in a timely fashion.
