Tynwald supports long-term future of IOM Post Office

Statutory body to report on plans by December

Tynwald has approved Tim Baker’s motion about the Isle of Man Post Office.

The Ayre and Michael MHK had moved that the court recognised the unique attributes, capabilities and social value of the Isle of Man Post Office, acknowledges the challenges it faces in its core business sectors and concern over future prospects and that the Council of Ministers ensure the long-term future of the Post Office for the benefit of the people of the Isle of Man.

An amendment by Post Office chair Julie Edge, that the statutory body reports back to Tynwald with plans by December was also voted through.

East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw also added an amendment which read that "Tynwald recognises the importance of putting aside any determination to pursue corporatisation".

This was also approved by the court.
