Two charges against teen dropped

Police officer crucial to case is on extended leave

A teenager accused of breaching an anti-social behaviour order has had two charges dropped because a police officer is on annual leave.

Eighteen-year-old Connor John Lewis appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

It’s alleged be broke the terms of his ASBO three times on 14 April and then again twice on 11 May.

But prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing a police officer whose evidence is vital to the case will be on leave for three months, forcing him to withdraw the May allegations.

Mr Lewis, of Queens Drive West in Peel, denied all the charges against him at earlier hearings.

After the charges were withdrawn, his advocate Louise Cooil said as he was legally aided, she was duty-bound to apply for costs against the prosecution.

Magistrates awarded costs to the defence, to be paid by the Attorney General’s Office.

Mr Lewis was bailed in the sum of £500 to appear again on 12 August.
