Farmhill man unaware he needed to take test to drive trucks
A truck driver who drove a work vehicle without tax or a valid licence has been fined by magistrates.
Zbigniew Kulesza of Farmhill Meadows pleaded guilty to both offences when he appeared before magistrates.
The hearing at Douglas Courthouse was told the 56-year-old was stopped by police on Cooil Road on 7 March.
A computer check showed his DAF truck’s tax had expired in November 2018.
When Kulesza moved to the Isle of Man 14 years ago he exchanged his Polish driving licence for a Manx one, but didn’t know he needed to take a test to drive trucks.
His advocate told the court he’d been told to drive the truck by his boss at Paddleman Limited, trading as Askbuck, and the company also faced charges over the incident.
Magistrates said they sympathised with his plight, but that it was his responsibility to make sure his licence was valid.
They fined him £50, ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and put two penalty points on his licence.
