Trio jailed for illegal lockdown gathering

Group caught mixing in Ramsey flat

Three people have been jailed after an illegal gathering during lockdown, with a fourth handed a fixed penalty.

Jason Liam Christian of Bircham Avenue Close and Melissa Brew of Cronk Elfin – both in Ramsey - appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse through a videolink from jail.

Both 19 year old Brew and 28 year old Christian had previously pleaded not guilty to breaching coronavirus restrictions on April 3, but changed their pleas to guilty.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court the couple were in a flat on Parliament Street in Ramsey when police were called to reports of a disturbance.

Officers discovered four people inside, who'd been drinking together in defiance of rules banning households mixing indoors - one woman was given a fixed penalty notice by police.

At an earlier hearing, the flat's occupant, 39-year-old Scott Eric Carbutt was jailed for four weeks over the illegal gathering.

After hearing Brew was warned on March 22 about breaching Covid-19 restrictions, Mrs Hughes jailed her for six weeks.

Christian, who was serving a suspended prison sentence at the time of his arrest, was sent to prison for five weeks.
