Wednesday deadline to register and stand in 2020 local elections

Prospective candidates must be on the January roll

Anybody who wishes to stand in next year's local authority general elections has until tomorrow to make sure they're on the electoral roll.

Prospective candidates who aren't registered have until Wednesday (Dec 18) to complete and return a household enquiry form.

Those whose names aren't on the January register won't be able to take part in the 2020 contest.

Local authorities across the Island have been publicising the cut-off point on social media, in a bid to drum up interest.

You can find out more by heading to gov.im/elections or telephoning 685754.

The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed the election will be held on Thursday, 23 April.

Those who haven't registered to vote can leave it a little later, and apply by 18 March to be included on the April electoral roll.
