Swabbing delays caused by increased demand

More testers being recruited to alleviate issues

Increased demand at the Covid testing centre has led to lengthy queues for those waiting to be swabbed.

Locals have reported waiting in excess of an hour after arriving for screening at the Grandstand over the last few days.

The Isle of Man Government says this is due to demand from the testing needed for those arriving on Island, and as a result of contact tracing.

Work is underway to increase the number of swabbers, but recruitment is subject to criminal record checks.

New swabbers also have to undergo training, and while the number of staff is gradually increasing, government says it takes time to get them in place.

The number of people being swabbed each day has been increasing, as 1 July saw 441 people attend the test centre, while yesterday increased to 787.
