Spar burglary - two teens appear in court

No pleas entered

A burglary at a filling station in the north of the Island has led to two teenage boys appearing in court.

Neither of the children, from Laxey and Ramsey, entered pleas to a charge of burglary when they appeared via a live video link before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Magistrates banned their identification because of their age.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon said a burglar alarm at the Spar store on Parliament Street in Ramsey sparked a police response just before 5am on 20 May.

CCTV footage showed two people breaking into the shop using a scaffolding pole – once inside they stole two bottles of wine before making off down a back alleyway.

The next day, a motorist in Bride reported two boys drinking wine had blocked a road using traffic cones and the duo were arrested shortly afterwards.

Both denied any involvement in the offence and their advocates pointed out police statements said they’d suspected other people of committing the crime.

Both were bailed to their parents' addresses in the sum of £200 to appear again before a juvenile court on 27 May.
