Sewage treated to modern standards by 2019

Peel MHK raises water quality in first Tynwald question

The new MHK for Peel has been told sewage in Peel should be treated to modern standards by 2019.

Ray Harmer today (Tues) tabled his first question during a sitting of Tynwald.

He asked Manx Utilities Authority chairman Alfred Cannan for a progress report and stressed he was keen to ensure environmental and feasibility studies were carried out and design work was ready for such a scheme.

Mr Cannan said there would be full disclosure with Peel Commissioners at every stage of the project.

Mr Harmer last month described delays to assess a leak and fix a crack in the sewage outfall pipe on Peel beach as 'unacceptable'.

The MUA has claimed water quality remains 'good', according to the standards the Isle of Man uses, which are from the 1970s and 1990s.
