Recruitment of new police officers a 'challenge' says DHA

But priorities will be met says CEO

Recruitment, and retention, of police officers on the Isle of Man continues to be a 'challenge'.

The Department of Home Affairs says the Covid-19 pandemic is just one reason it's struggling to bring in new constables.

Around 10 potential officers have been selected to go through initial training in the next month and the department is also looking to attract people from the UK.

Interim chief executive Dan Davies was quizzed on the issue, by MLC Peter Greenhill, at a Social Affairs Policy Review Committee last week:

Minister Graham Cregeen says if issues with a lack of officers are raised by the chief constable he will consider a 'business case' for funding to ensure the Island is 'properly protected'.
