Many services expected to operate 'Christmas Day' schedule
In just over two days, members of the Royal College of Nursing are expected to stage walkouts as part of their continued dispute over pay and conditions.
Twelve-hours of strike action will begin on 14 September, with the Island’s health body closing a number of services as a result, whilst others operating a 'Christmas Day' schedule.
Most outpatient services are closing during the industrial action. However, the emergency department, mental health crisis team, maternity, chemotherapy, Macmillan Cancer support and physiotherapy outpatient services will continue to operate as normal.
Ramsey’s Minor Injuries Unit will close, with residents being asked to attend appropriate alternatives if required.
The Blood Clinic at both Noble’s and Ramsey Cottage Hospital will close, and vaccination programmes will be suspended throughout the day.
Numerous appointments are being cancelled including endoscopy, elective theatre sessions, paediatric outpatient, and the GUM clinic.
GP practices across the Island are unaffected by the RCN walkouts.
Manx Care says it remains open to discussions with union members, but continue to insist options are limited due to financial constraints and any further pay offer is impossible and would put the organisation in breach of its financial regulations.
