Prosecution offers no evidence
A court’s heard a man accused of a string of sex crimes abroad when he was a child can’t be prosecuted for them on the Isle of Man.
Twenty-two-year-old Anthony Robert Collis, of Mona Street in Douglas, faced a total of five charges, all involving the same victim.
Between January 2008 and September 2010, he’s alleged to have committed three rapes, one indecent assault and procured a child to commit gross indecency.
But all charges have been withdrawn, after the prosecution offered no evidence.
Magistrates heard crimes can only be tried here if they were illegal in the country they were committed in.
However, one was in Malta and one was in Spain – in both cases Mr Collis was under the country’s age of criminal responsibility.
Prosecuting, Roger Cain said after making inquiries, he would offer no evidence and withdraw the allegations.
Magistrates dismissed all of the charges.
