Ramsey man jailed after missing probation appointments

Twenty-five-year-old admits breaching combination order

A Ramsey man who breached a court order by missing probation appointments before trying to steal from a supermarket has been sent to prison.

Twenty-five-year-old James Tarron Keggin of North Shore Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of breaching a combination order and attempted theft.

The court heard he’d been subject to a combination order of probation and community service, but missed meetings and workgroups in October and November.

Prosecutor James Robinson said on 4 December, Keggin went into Shoprite and put vodka and lemonade in a bag before trying to leave the store.

However, a member of staff had watched him trying to steal on CCTV and Keggin returned the items when challenged at the entrance.

Magistrates jailed him for six weeks for breaching the court order, which they told him was a serious offence.

They also jailed him for five days for the attempted theft, which will run alongside the longer prison sentence.
