Public beneficial ownership register in the Keys spotlight

Sixteen questions up for discussion

The possibility of the UK Parliament imposing legislation on the Isle of Man will be back in the spotlight this morning.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle will be asked to make a statement on recent proposals to apply parts of the UK Anti-Money Laundering Bill to the Island, which could have seen Manx officials forced to create an open and public beneficial ownership register.

It's one of sixteen questions which will be asked at this week's sitting of the House of Keys.

Other issues to be raised include the renovation of redundant public buildings, the clearing of footpaths around the Island, and the availability of cashless payment facilities for government-run car parks.

The Infrastructure Minister faces three questions, including one on the future of the Chester Street site from Onchan MHK Rob Callister.

While Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper has a series of queries for the Policy and Reform Minister on plans for rates modernisation.

Other questions cover the budget for advertising the Isle of Man, progress with developing means testing, and future plans for the Island's macular degeneration service.

There are also four questions for written answer covering the setting of rents for elderly local authority housing residents, film investments from the Media Development Fund, and the differences between the curriculum at St Thomas' school and the Island's secular schools.

After question time, Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett will make a bid to have the House of Keys Standing Orders made gender neutral.

You can listen coverage of the question time from the House of Keys online at manxradio.com via the AM player, on the apps, or on AM1368 from 10am this morning.

In the Legislative Council chamber at 10:30am, MLCs will hear a statement from Bill Henderson MLC on the Abortion Reform Bill 2018.

That proposed legislation passed it's third reading in the House of Keys last week.
