PSM Commissioners vote to cut membership

Tynwald approval needed

A local authority in the south of the Island has taken a step towards reducing its membership.

During their annual general meeting this week, Port St Mary Commissioners voted to have the board cut from nine members to five.

Five members voted to support the motion, put forward by Andrew Phair, with three against and one member absent.

Outgoing chairman, Laurence Vaughan-Williams was opposed to the reduction, and questioned whether it was legal.

Before the change can take effect, the Department of Infrastructure must launch a public enquiry, and following this place an order before Tynwald for approval.
