Prom work starts today

Fixtures and street furniture being removed

Work officially begins today (Mon) on one of the biggest public renovation projects in a generation.

Preparatory work is being carried out on Douglas Promenade by the Department of Infrastructure, ahead of a £20 million refurbishment of the roadway.

Street furniture and ageing fixtures will be removed, and resurfacing work will take place on the northern end at King Edward Road.

The main bulk of the scheme will be carried out by an as-yet-unnamed private contractor, with the creation of up to 50 jobs.

Acting Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker has welcomed progress on the prom.
