A man who headbutted a barman and stole a £400 pair of headphones just weeks later has been spared a jail term.
Craig Phillip Teare, of Princes Avenue in Douglas, admitted assault and theft, when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
The hearing was told Crellin had been drunk in the Thirsty Pigeon in Douglas on 23 March when he headbutted one of the staff, who wasn’t seriously injured.
And on 14 April, he went into WH Smith on a number of occasions and stole various items, including the headphones.
Teare’s advocate Steve Wood said his problems related to alcohol abuse after a difficult period in his life, but his client had now stopped drinking.
He described Teare’s theft as “ridiculous”, saying at one point the 33-year-old had looked directly into CCTV cameras as he stole the headphones.
Mrs Hughes told Teare she’d considered sending him to prison, but had decided to allow him to continue working with professionals trying to help him.
She sentenced him to 120 hours of community service, 12 months probation, and banned him from licensed premises for a year.
He’ll also have to pay £125 prosecution costs.
