Man attacks former love rival
A long-running dispute between three men boiled over into a pub fight involving pool cues, a court's heard.
Forty-one-year-old Philip Paul Tomkinson of Tynwald Road in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises on 16 July at the Manor Hotel in Willaston.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Tomkinson went straight to the pub after work at 4pm, drinking up to eight pints before the incident.
Tomkinson pushed one of the men – a former love rival – and a fight broke out, with punches thrown and pool cues brandished.
The pub's designated official called police, but the other two men had left the scene when officers arrived.
They were later arrested and each fined £750.
After hearing Tomkinson had started the fight, magistrates fined him £1,000 and ordered him to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
He was also handed a six-month ban on purchasing or being supplied alcohol.
